Welcome to our fifth grade class at Jackson- Steele Elementary. I am Ms. Smith, and I will be your child’s Reading, Language, and Writing teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. I have a very exciting year in store for you and your child. I realize that teaching your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will make sure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience. However, I cannot do this alone, I need your help.  I will need you to be partners in the learning process. I will need you to encourage your child at home to help to ensure that he/she has completed his/her assignments, and help to study for quizzes, if necessary.

I will keep you informed of all assignments and topics that are covered in class with a weekly newsletter that will be sent home on Monday of each week, however, if a holiday is on Monday the newsletter will be sent home the next day that school is in session. Homework will be assigned on Monday thru Wednesday with Thursday being a study night. Spelling homework assignments will be on the back of the newsletter weekly. Students will be expected to sign to receive newsletters. After the first semester, in preparation of middle school, the students will be required to copy all assignments from the board in class, however, newsletters with classroom and school announcements will be sent home on Monday.
